This program, known formally as the Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia "Industry-Academia Global Engineering Human Resource Development Program," was implemented by Kyoto University in 2007.

The Industry-Academia Global Engineering Human Resource Development Program brings together individuals of outstanding talent and ambition from all over the world, though chiefly from Asia. The program offers a specialized engineering education of the highest international standard, with an appealing curriculum featuring industry-academia collaborative research. Through this approach, the program turns out technologists who are not only deeply skilled in their areas of scientific and engineering expertise but are also equipped with a rich vision, the power to execute their ideas, and the maturity to make an immediate impact on Japanese industry.

This program hopes to shape technologists who are able to drive scientific and technical innovation on a global scale by sharpening skills such as highly developed creativity, the ability to identify problems, planning skills, the capacity to successfully execute ideas, Japanese language ability, and the capacity to work as a specialist or team leader in industry.
