You can use the following databases when you study and research. These databases will be introduced to students and teachers from the faculty and graduate school of engineering.

  Some databases are only accessible from KU. The caution "only in KU" is written at the right of the database's title. You need to enter your ECS-ID or SPS-ID to access them.

*An ECS-ID or SPS-ID is issued to students (ECS-ID) or faculty /staff members (SPS-ID) by the Institute of Information Management and Communication. Your ID will be in the format: a0******.

Finding resources in the National Diet Library [NDL]


    The National Diet Library (http://www.ndl.go.jp/index.html) holds documents relating to the legal deposit system in Japan.
    You can search not only for books, journals and newspapers, but also for doctoral theses. You can request an interlibrary loan.


Finding resources abroad

  • OCLC WorldCat [Online Computer Library Center] (only in KU)
    You can search WorldCat to find books and journals from libraries around the world. WorldCat is provided by OCLC in the US.
    If you wish to access WorldCat outside Kyoto University, please use WorldCat.org(http://www.worldcat.org/).
  • ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering  [ProQuest] (only in KU)
    Abstracts are available from January 1993 to the present. Sources covered include over 350 periodicals, conference proceedings, technical reports, trade journal/newsletter items, patents, books, and press releases.
    Subjects: engineering, information technology and computing, electronics, biotechnology, medical technology.
  • British Library Integrated Catalogue [British Library]
    The British Library (http://www.bl.uk/) is the national library of the UK. You can use the British Library Integrated Catalogue to find resources held in The British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC).
  • Library of Congress Online Catalog [Library of Congress]
    You can find resources held in Library of Congress at http://www.loc.gov/index.html).
  • BnF catalogue général [ Bibliotheque nationale de France]
    You can find resources held in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF)  at http://www.bnf.fr/fr/acc/x.accueil.html.
  • Katalog der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek [Deutsche Nationalbibliothek]
    You can find resources held in Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB) at http://www.d-nb.de/.

  •  ”Sou” : imagine (Japanese only)
    "Associative Search" of “Sou” is useful when searching for ambiguous themes. You can search “Sou” to find resources in academic libraries, historical materials, and bookstores.
  • Calil: Japan’s biggest online searching site (Japanese only)

    Calil has unique functions.
    • “Recipe” will recommend you books that you may be interested in
    •  “Popular books” shows which books have been viewed recently
    •   “Library map” allows you to search for a library near you.
    • “Want to read” allows you to make a list of books you are interested in.
