Finding Articles

You can use “reference” databases to search by titles of articles, read abstracts, and find links to text (PDF files). In “fact” databases, you can find sources or results of experiments and other research.

Below we provide an outline of the types of electronic resources, available, providing details about the different features of databases that are often used by those majoring in engineering.

*If the caution [the authentication system is required] is written, the setup of the "E-Journal and Database Authentication System" is required to access the database. For details, please see How to use e-resources.

Make use of electronic resources

Electronic resources at Kyoto University Libraries

You can read various books and academic journals online at Discovery (Article Search) and the list of E-journal and E-book. Kyoto University offers E-Journals (about 50,000 titles), E-Books (about 60,000 titles) as of April 2022.

Various kinds of online databases are also available at the list of Databases.

Attention

In order to access e-journals, e-books and databases, the setup of the authentication system is required. This system allows you to access e-resources from the campus and even from off-campus without other change of settings of your PC or network. Please read the following guide to the setup of the authentication system.

Systematic and programmatic download and usage beyond the private purpose are prohibited.

If you need help accessing e-resources, please contact us.

Accessing full text articles

When you search for articles using reference databases, “ArticleLinker” ( article linker (image1) or article linker (image2) ) navigates you to the full-text of the article. You need to go through the authentication system when you want to access the full-text of an article .

Limit on number of users

Some databases limit the number of users who can access at the same time. The number is described in the list of Databases as follows.

For example) limit of users(image)

↑Only 8 users can use the database at one time.

If you cannot access because of this restriction, please try again later.

General databases for Engineering

  • CiNii Research [National Institute of Informatics]
This database service enables you to search not only information on academic articles but also a lot of information related to research activities such as research data and project information. You can retrieve part of the full-text.
  • JDreamⅢ [G-Search] [the authentication system is required]
You can use this database to search 60 million worldwide technological articles in Japanese. A maximum of 2 users can access this database at one time.
※When you “Login”, please enter your name in the window labeled “Onamae”.
  • Ichushi Web [Japan Medical Abstracts Society] [Japanese] [the authentication system is required]
You can search Japanese journals of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and other related disciplines, Japan. This database is useful when you want to search for information relating to a range of medical or technological fields of expertise; for example, biomedical engineering, medical informatics.
  • Web of Science [Clarivate] [the authentication system is required]
The database provides access to essential information for all levels of academic, corporate, and government research. EndNote Online is also available.
