Course Description

This course provides the knowledge on geotechnical engineering related to soft ground improvement, natural disaster mitigation, and geo-environmental issues.

Grading

Grading will be made based on the final exam and attendances.

Course Goals

The goal of this course is to understand the geotechnical engineering contributing to disaster prevention and environmental issues.

Course Topics

Theme Class number of times Description
Soft ground improvement 4 (1) Foundations of structures, (2) countermeasures against soft ground, (3) principle of ground improvement, (4) innovative materials including geosynthetics, and (5) road and pavement engineering, are introduced.
Environmental Geotechnics 5 (1) Remediation of contaminated soils and groundwaters, (2) waste containment, and (3) reuse of waste materials in geotechnical applications, are introduced.
Geo-disaster (1) 5 (1) Performance-based design for geo-disaster, (2) measures against liquefaction, (3) environmental vibrations and measures, and (4) mechanisms of retaining structures, are introduced.
Achievement confirmation 1 Achievement of learning is confirmed.
