Research, Special Research and Special Auditing Students (International Students)

Research students

Requirement

You should fulfill the following requirements:

  1. graduation from a university
  2. completion of 16-year schooling abroad

Research Students are required to stay in Japan with Resident Status of ”College Student'' under Immigration Control and Refugee-Recognition Act.

Procedure

Applicant who wishes to apply for the research student is requested first to contact an appropriate professor under whom he/she wants to study. To be a research student, he/she has to find a supervising professor who will accept you. It is regrettable to say, however, that being enrolled as a research student in our faculty is rather difficult because of lots of applicants and a limited space for these students.

*Applicants who have graduated or expect to graduate from non-Japanese universities , and wish to enrol in Kyoto University as a research, master's or doctoral student, are required to contact the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) for a preliminary screening before eligibility confirmation and submitting their application documents to the graduate school of Engineering. Expenses

Expenses for studying here in Kyoto University cost at least 1,500,000 yen per year including tuition fees. It is most important for foreign applicants to get a financial support covering these expenses. But we regret to say that Kyoto University has no scholarship for foreign students. As for detailed information on Japanese Government (MONBUKAGAKUSHO) Scholarship, please contact Japanese diplomatic mission in your country.

Special research students

This system enables students who come to Kyoto University under an inter-university or inter-departmental exchange agreement to receive research guidance in the Graduate School of Engineering. However, this system does not enable the student to earn any academic qualifications or credits during the research period.

Since all procedures are handled by the responsible officers at Kyoto University and the partner school, direct applications by aspiring overseas students to Kyoto University are not accepted. Please check whether the school in which you are enrolled has an exchange agreement with Kyoto University and if so, check the details of this agreement.
