Use of Dissertations

Katsura Library and the South Library hold some of the dissertations submitted to the Graduate School of Engineering and Faculty of Engineering.

Holdings

    We hold some of the dissertations (doctoral theses, master's theses, and graduation theses) submitted to the Graduate School of Engineering and Faculty of Engineering. Not all theses are available, so please inquire in advance whether or not we hold the dissertation you wish to use.

    How to Use

    Browse

    • Please fill out "Form 1_Dissertation browsing application" (in Japanese)[Word] and send it to us by email.
      • Non-Kyoto University users are required to apply through their university library or the nearest public library.
      • Graduate and undergraduate students other than Kyoto University are required to have an introduction from their academic advisor.
    • Available from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm on weekdays.
    • Please bring your ID card when you visit. We will keep your ID card while you browse the materials.
    • You may browse the materials in the Rare Books Reading Room or in a space designated by staff. Please leave all baggage except writing utensils and valuables in a locker. No PCs, mobile phones, or cameras are allowed.
    • Photocopies are not available on the day. If you need a photocopy, please request according to the following procedure.

    Photocopy

    • Please fill out "Form 2_Dissertation copy application" (in Japanese)[Word] and send it to us by email.
      • Kyoto University users also need to apply from MyKULINE. For information about how to apply from MyKULINE, please refer to Guide to Interlibrary Loan Services.
      • Non-Kyoto University users are required to apply through their university library or the nearest public library.
    • For doctoral theses, you can make photocopies to the extent permitted by the Copyright Act (less than half of the entire thesis). In the case of exceeding the extent, you must get the permission of the copyright holder.
    • For master's theses and graduation theses, you can make photocopies only with the permission of the copyright holder.
    • Photocopying and reproduction of data are not permitted for graduate designs (Department of Architecture).
    • There is no prescribed form for the dissertation copy permission, but please use the following form after modifying it as necessary.
    • Please be sure to include the following information in the permission form.
      • Photocopy applicant
      • Title of the thesis
      • The phrase "Permission is granted to the photocopy applicant to obtain a copy of [all] parts of the thesis."
      • Date of permission
      • The copyright holder (name and seal or signature)

    Temporary loan

    • Only faculty members of the laboratory to which the author belonged can borrow the dissertations temporarily for educational purposes.
    • Please fill out "Form 3_dissertation temporary lending application" (in Japanese)[Word] and send it to us by email.

    Others

    • Kyoto University Library (Main Library) archives all the doctoral dissertations submitted to Kyoto University since its establishment in 1897. If Katsura Library and the South Library do not have the dissertations you want to read, please visit Kyoto University Library. For more  details on procedure  for use, please refer to the website of Kyoto University Library.
