[Engineering Library & Learning Commons] Our Services and Operations from October 2026 Onward

From October 1 (Thu.), 2026, the Engineering North Library, Engineering South Library, and Learning Commons will restructure their services. The key changes associated with this restructuring are as follows:

  • Consolidation of Library Services: Library services on Yoshida Campus will be consolidated into the Engineering South Library.
  • Relocation of Collections: Materials currently held in the North Library will be transferred to the South Library.
  • Extension of Hours: Opening hours for both the Engineering North and South Learning Commons will be extended to provide improved study spaces for students.
  • Closure of Engineering North Library: The Engineering North Library will be permanently closed.

We sincerely apologize for the short notice regarding these adjustments and appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We remain committed to continuously enhancing our services for undergraduate students studying at Yoshida Campus.

Engineering North Library

To consolidate library services, all library materials held by the North Library will be transferred to the South Library. The North Library will remain temporarily closed and will eventually close permanently.

Temporary Closure Continues from October onward

  • Relocation of All Materials (books and journals) to the South Library during September 2026
    * Some recent issues of electrical engineering journals will be relocated to the Engineering North Learning Commons.
  • Permanent Closure upon the Completion of the Material Transfer and Organization

Important Notes

  • Books currently on loan from the North Library will be reclassified as items borrowed from the South Library in October.
  • Receive counter for items currently on reservation will automatically be changed to the South Library in October.
  • The North Library can no longer be selected as a receive counter for items requested from other campus libraries (such as Katsura Library or Uji Library).
  • The book drop located at the entrance of the North Library will remain available for the time being, but is scheduled for removal within this academic year. It may take a few days for books deposited in the drop to be processed as returned. If you require immediate processing of returned items, please return them directly to the South Library.

Engineering South Library

The Engineering South Library will reopen under updated opening hours from October 2026. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these shortened opening hours compared to previous ones.

Opening Hours

  • Weekdays 10:00 am-5:00 pm
    ※Closed on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Important Notes

  • Transferred materials from the North Library will be integrated and shelved alongside existing South Library collections on reading rooms.
  • Some materials have been relocated to the stack room or transferred to Katsura Library.
  • Organization and processing of transferred materials will continue through October, which may result in temporary access restrictions to certain areas.

Engineering North & South Learning Commons

In response to student requests for longer opening hours, both Learning Commons will open at 8:00 AM and close at 6:30 PM from October 2026. We encourage you to make active use of these enhanced learning environments.

  • Weekdays 8:00 am-6:30 pm

Important Notes

  • The floor entrance doors will automatically unlock at opening time and lock at closing time.
